Operating Instructions for "Fred"

Obtain keys from blue back pack located in back office of Clubhouse

Enter "Fred" from front deck by unzipping plastic screen then open door from bolt latch inside.
Open rear mesh curtain and roll up.
Open side plastic blinds and clip onto roof beam

Unlock fuel tank under rear seat, check fuel level and pressurise fuel line bowl,
unlock radio compartment,
unlock chairs under starboard bench,
unlock cupboard under console.

Turn ON power isolation switch on Battery terminal

Ensure Radio & Horn switches on console are ON (Test horn, switch on wall on Port side wall)

Ensure water is deep enough to Trim motor down until water intake is under the water before starting motor

Start motor by turning key (do not use choke lever, all motors have auto choke)

Allow motor to warm for 30 seconds

Ensure mooring chain has been disconnected and is clear of propellor before proceeding carefully between other moorings/boats to deep water.

Proceed to suitable location and await for instructions as to where to anchor for start line.

Do radio check with Base and Kabi

Be wary of fingers in anchor chain latch when anchoring

Preparing for Start
  • Signal Flags are stored inside tube in Console. Pull out required flags and insert them into the appropriate tubes in preparation for Start sequence. (Code flag "P" goes in the tube nearest the stern of the boat or it will foul warning flags.)
    Base of flag tubes slip into small tube located on outside of wall when down and over projecting screw on window sill when up.
  • Insert Orange Flag ( start line indicator) in tube outside window on Starboard Side.
    Release stern barging buoy

Returning to Mooring

Proceed carefully back to mooring area. Always approach from easterly direction. (be wary of rocks near eastern end of island and close to point)

Remember to raise motor before enterring shallow water.

Ensure mooring chain is correctly attached (back up rope tail should be secured to cleat on bow sprit)

Raise motor fully and turn off power.
Stow all flags in console tube, lock chairs away,
Check fuel tank level (take to Clubhouse for refilling if necessary)
Lock fuel compartment, Radio compartment and Console. (Tongue on console latch need to be in UP position to be locked correctly)
Close rear and side screens before exiting through the front door.

Replace keys in back pack and return to Clubhouse
