Start/Finish Proceedures
1
Select suitable location for start in consultation with Kabi prior to anchoring
2

Ensure necessary Flags are located in tubes ready for hoist.

Warning signals: Code flag U for Division 1 goes in the forward most tube
with Code flag E for Division 2 in the third tube

Code flag P goes in the tube at the rear of the Port window opening

Orange flag goes in the tube on the Starboard side to indicate start line.

Have the following flags on the floor of the boat in a handy location in case they are needed
Code flag X (Individual Recall) and First Substitute (General Recall)

Hoist Course flag or in the tube on the front rail

3
After Kabi has radioed the wind direction place the magnetic board showing the bearing to Mark 1 on the stern partition facing outwards.
4
Using the Hand bearing compass determine the angle for the start mark and advise Kabi when to drop it.
5

Refer to Start sequence page for actions.

6

If you decide that you can identify all boats that are premature starters raise Code flag X and give an extra sound signal, indicating an individual recall.
X must remain up until all OCS boats return or until one minute before any subsequent start.

If there are too many boats OCS to identify them all, then raise First Substitute with 2 sound signals to indicate a general recall.

7
In the event of a General Recall ensure that the Start Line is true to the wind
8
Pre-determine when you wish to restart after a General Recall and drop First Substitute with sound signal one minute before raising the Warning Signal for the restart. Proceed with actions as in 5
9
Endeavour to record each boat around Mark 3 for a record of laps completed.

10

Locate Blue flag in a visible place to indicate to competitors that you are
ON STATION for the finish
Advise Kabi where to drop Finish mark. Directly downwind from "Fred" close enough to give good visibility for reading sail numbers as they cross the line.
11
Record finish times in the Time Sheet in the order in which boats finish.
Transfer the total number of laps to the appropriate box in the RH column of the time sheet.
12
Ensure all boats have finished and all flags are down before leaving station.
